Colchester is also part of the historic "Airline Trail,” the rail line built in the 1870's from New York to Boston. Today this provide miles of trails and used by hikers horse riders and cyclists. The Airline Trail crosses the Lyman Viaduct, which is 137 feet over the Dickenson Creek and is a hot summer hang outs for many.
Kayakers and fisherman can enjoy the waters on Babcock Pond, or Pickerel Lake and the Salmon River. The are dozens of smaller ponds as well.
Harry’s Place, which is also on National Register of Historic Places, is Colchester's most famous restaurant and will be 100 years old soon. Diners have been going there for generations, and it hasn’t changed. Harry Schmuckler first opened the doors to Harry’s Place in 1920. He sold the shack to employee Ruby Cohen in the 1930’s, and 50 years later in 1978, the Garrett family bought it and now a third generation of Garets are keeping the hot dogs and fries coming.
